Friday the 29th Camo was able to wear his Halloween costume to school. They have a costume contest and Camden wanted to win really bad. Each grade chooses 1 to 2 students as the winners of the contest. Camo just happened to be the 1 chosen as the WINNER for the first grade. He was so excited when he got home form school.
Sunday I took the boys trick-or- treating while Corey was at fire-hall. We only went to eight houses and with all the candy Camo and Cash got you would have thought we had been out all evening.(Yes, everyone filled Cash's trick-or-treat bag with goodies too. I think Camo will take care of the sweet treats for his little brother, though.

October 14th Cash turned 6 months old and that day we left town to go to Ruidoso. The night before we left Cash began army crawling all over the place.
We had a good time in Ruidoso. Camden rode go carts at Fun Trackers. He could not ride the really fast ones but he had a lot of fun on the Turtle Track.
When we got back home we got things ready for Cash to go into surgery on Tuesday morning. He did great and the Dr. was really pleased. Camo was such a concerned brother and told me he did not think Cash was old enough for surgery yest and was really upset.

In the meantime, Cash has gotten really good at his army crawl and has also began crawling on his hands and knees. Camden being the good big brother decides to play with Cash by putting a toy on the end of a blanket and then dragging it around just out of his brother's reach, making Cash "work" to get the toy by crawling all over the house. But, Cash did crawl all over and got the toy off the edge of the blanket more than once while Big Brother was trying to tease him.

Last night I was in the kitchen and Cash was crying wanting to be where everyone else was so he began crawling towards the kitchen. The crying stopped and I heard giggling. I looked to see what he was doing and he had PULLED UP on the edge of the recliner and was standing there looking at us as we stood in the kitchen. Camden was excited and told us he thought that Cash would start walking next week.... Let's hope not just yet... lol!

Today Cash is 5 months old!! I cannot believe how fast the time has just flown by. He is growing so fast. He loves to sit in his exersaucer to play and gets so excited. He wakes up around 1:30 every night to eat and then wakes up around 4:30 to play in his crib before HE puts himself back to sleep. He also LOVES his cereal. Cash has been rolling over to his stomach since he was about 3 months old and today out of nowhere he started rolling all over the living room!
Camo likes to play with him in the mornings before we leave for school. He is such a good big brother and helps out so much with Cash. Corey and I have been so blessed to have two amazing little boys.

2010 has been a busy year for the Johnston family. I know I was going to try and keep the blog updated since Corey was so busy, but I got so busy and just could not keep up either.
April 14 we welcomed Cash McLayne into the world at 11:07 a.m. weighing in at 7 lbs and 15 oz. 21 1/2 inches long. He is now 3 and a half months old with one tooth, and rolling over already! Time has just flown by so fast!
Camden has finished kindergarten and is fixing to turn seven and start first grade. he is growing up so fast and thinks he is so big. He loves being a big brother and Cash thinks Camo is pretty cool too.
Corey just had a birthday and is now officially a grownup.(I think)
He is still the sports broadcaster at KFLP here in Floydada and LOVES his job!

Corey has been very busy and has not had time to update the blog.....so I will be trying to update as much as I possibly can.
I will give a few little updates to catch us up to the present.

August... Corey turned 32 and we spent his Birthday at the cabin in Ruidoso. Camo turned 6 and he had a sports themed birthday party at the house in the backyard.
September... Camden started Kindergarten!!!!! He was so excited.... I just hope it last that he gets excited about school. We also found out this month that Camo was going to be a Big Brother!!!
October.... Football season is in full swing and the Johnston Household is very busy.
November.... We went to Andrews for Thanksgiving and got to see all of my family. It was such a blessing.
December.... We found out that Baby J is a little BOY!!!! Aunt CiCi and Zac got married in Hawaii!!!
I will figure out how to post pics and try to get some up soon.

Henry's and Hamburgers

Several months ago myself and a couple of buddies all went to Estillene for a bar-b-q cook-off one afternoon. As we were ending the day we were asked if we would like to purchase raffle tickets for a Henry .17HMR Golden Boy Rifle. Well the cause was a good one and I am a fan of guns anyway, so what would it hurt right. Well one week ago today I got a phone call from the man drawing names at the Rodeo where it was to be given away. He told me that i had won the gun! After standing back up from falling out of my chair, I immediately asked about paperwork and ect. Well this weekend RaNay, Camo and I all went to Childress to pick up the gun and maybe eat some lunch while we were there. JT's drive-In in looked like a good place to stop and eat. It is a typical road-side greasy spoon with about 6 tables inside and three outside. Not much on the menu but simple items, burgers, fried shrimp, fish, ect. I decided on the Cheeseburger and so did RaNay, camden had the Steak Fingers and all of them were really good. But be advised that when dining at JT's remember that they only take cash money or local checks (within a 30 mile radius). And, of course I did not have any cash so I had to make alternative arrangements to obtain cash. Here are a couple more shots from our Saturday road trip.

It's just about that time again, Floydada's 26th Annual Rescue School is August 15th 2009. We as a department are excited to once again use our new state of the art training facility (more commonly known as "Sims Field") for a second year. There have been literally thousands of man hours put into this new facility and it is in a league of its own for small community departments. We will offer classes such as Rappelling I,II,III, Extrication, High Angle Rescue, Confined Space Rescue and many more through-out the day. If you know of someone that is on a department and might be interested in attending this school please leave a comment and I will make sure they get the information needed.
Now onto another subject, in a meeting with our City Manager today, I realized what a poor job we have done to market ourselves and our facility to others. In the Emergency Services Industry it often seems like firemen, police, EMS, are often forgotten until a real emergency. Our department of 21 active members currently has over 14,000 hours of training to help our community and at the same time have done very little to market ourselves as a valuable resource worth contributing to. It is our responsibility to raise public awareness of our services as well as find ways to continue to grow and expand our department. This training facility is truly one of a kind in this part of the country and I again encourage everyone to tell anyone you know that might be interested in our school to please comment and I will provide all information needed for them to attend.

We are now just under two weeks away from moving into our new house and I thought I would share some pictures of the house for everyone. So without further" adoo" ( or however you spell it).
Here are some pictures of the house that will take most of our lives to pay for. Notice the size of the backyard (considering the current fuel prices and the ages of my lawn mowers, It could cost 6 dollars just to mow the back yard) Please feel free to leave a comment, and I will post some pictures of the interior this week sometime..

So TeeBall is finally over and the Yankees (camo's team) finished the season with a winning 9-2-1 record. Camden did very well this year as we worked on the "fun"damentals of the game throughout the season ,things like Switch-Hitting, Fielders Choice, and Double plays. Ha ha just kidding! We worked more on things like (please stand up in the outfield, get your finger out of your nose in public, and Hurry, that girl is gonna catch you!) As a substitute coach I also learned some valuable lessons such as "high-5's" are very important and the flavor of snow-cones changes each week. Here are some pictures of Camo during the year.

A Full One Pound of Medium Rare Happiness

As some of you may know and or recall I have always had quite an appetite. This past week I will have to say I was challenged to the limit by a hamburger named after a gorilla. As in the 1933 stop motion movie where Kong made his way to the top of the Empire State Building, this hamburger also appeared high atop the menu at Michaels Charcoal Grill in Midland Texas. There it was gripping me much like Kong held Ann Darrow on the Empire State Building and I could not resist the urge to defeat this vicious beast.

With my trusty sidekick Randall by my side and publicly professing my insanity as the 10" wide and 1" thick pattie was placed on the grill, I had made a commitment to myself (for what reason I still have not figured out) and to all man kind to prove once more the MAN is the king of all beasts.
As we shared a laugh at the table while waiting for this mass of red meat to be cooked to perfection, I thought to myself "Have i bitten off more than i can chew?" (pun intended) But, it was too late this burger was coming no matter what.

"Corey your order is ready, Corey your order is ready" was the beckon call to finalize my commitment by making the walk to "Gate #3" (that's what thier pick-up location is called). There it was hidden underneath what must have been a enough dough to hide most small children from their parents. And once again a laugh came over me that I almost could not stop. "That is the most ridiculous hamburger I have ever seen" said Randall. I agreed. As I walked to the condiment bar and embarked on yet another journey to cover this monster called the "Super King Kong Burger" with my favorite goodies.

Heinz stock surely rose as i made my way around the pattie which took several spins of my tray to evenly cover the burger. And then on to the head of lettuce that i added, four slices of cheese just to cover the pattie and a jar of pickles to add that zing.

It was too late to turn back and not willing to waste money, I sat down. Bite, after bite after bite, I ate until it was gone and my stomach had expanded to the point that I lookied similar to Violet Beaureguard in Willy Wonka after eating the "three course meal" prototype gum, only I knew there would be no squeezing room just down the hall. Victorious I stood up like a champion and made my way to the Tea dispenser to add some moisture back into my body, of which I am certain the Mrs. Baird's cocoon that held the full one pound had soaked from every square inch of my body and that's when it happened. I felt it, that unstoppable feeling of misery that most people only get at Thanksgiving. With another 7 hours of work and travel time, I knew at that very moment that it would be a long night and it was! With out completely ruining everyones appetite now I will tell you that i kept this bohemouth of a burger down the entire Monday night, and have not eaten since.

And for those of you interested here is a picture of the burger, and by the way, the hand in the picture belongs to Randall, whom we estimate to be about 4 sesame seeds shy of 9" from wrist to fingertip.

If you are ever in the Midland Texas area and would like to make a complete idiot of yourself just as I have, I strongly suggest the help of Micheal's Charcoal Grill.

And if you think, that your appetite is bigger, I also suggest the "Tall City Burger". It's the Super King Kong Burger's 2 pound pattie big brother.

ok see the thing is that i have been in EMT school since September of last year and just finished about a week ago. Well, i finished the class, still have abulance rides and 36 hours of ER clinicals (yeah). So i havent had much time to update this page. I also took on a sports page very similar to this, and have to keep current information on it as well, so im still very busy. However in the midst of all of this Camo has now signed up for his first tee-ball team yesterday. They will draft (that's funny... drafting 5 year olds) next week so we should know the team he will be on. As soon as we know that i will try to post some pics of him in uniform and let everybody know his schedule, should you decide that you might want to show up at one.

It's been a while since i even held the camera much less taken any photos and I have a wedding to photograph this weekend. So I went this afternoon and gave myself a little crash course reminder of "what the hell does this button do". I really didn't have any desire to capture a shot I just need to go push buttons, however I came home with a pretty good shot. You may have seen it as the background behind the blog title, anyway I thought I would share the color and the black and white of that picture with you for your thoughts. Our New Family

O.K. by now most of you know that "Dori" (Camo's Golden Retriver) was sexually assaulted by a German Shorthaired Pointer with an rediculous vertical leap. And as a result Dori became another pregnant teen. I had no intentions of breeding her at this point but had processed the idea of finding a suitable male with good manners and a great coat to assume the duties. However since the deed has already been done we now have a family of 6 brothers and sisters to take care of. I have not posted any pics of the puppies so i thought i would share some now.

Much Better Now

So for about the last four days Camden has done a much better job of keeping the food he eats on the inside rather than the outside. Everyone i talked to said the same thing "give him a couple more days and it will go away." And sure enough it did. So thanks to all of you and for the phone calls. Camo is becoming much older now and thinks that every time the phone rings that it is for him so he runs to answer it. That's what "big" 5 year olds do!!!
It's been a while since i have posted any pics of him, and I'm sorry but there is a reason. I asked him at Christmas time if he wanted to get his hair cut and he said no, he still is saying no! So his hair is a wreck, and hopefully we can soon convince him to cut that mop on his head off. Until then i hate to exploit him that way.

Camo Still Sick

I'm not sure how many enemies I have but what Camo has been through in the last 10 days I wouldn't wish on any of them. Just when we thought we had cleared up the Pnuemonia stuff and he was beginning to breathe better, Last Thursday or Friday he came in the bedroom at about 6:45 am and coughed so hard it made him vomit. Oh Crap now what, so we go to the Dr. and sure enough he now has a stomach bug on top of all of the other stuff that he has been through. However it is now, Wednesday of the following week and we are 2 days down with-out throwing up. Yay. please keep your fingers crossed he has been through a lot in the last week. If you really wanna make his day you could call him, he has been couped up in the house for nearly two weeeks and could use some good ole family and friend conversations. Hint, Hint. Thanks i will keep everyone posted on his progress.

Traveling at the "Speed of Sense"

It's been almost exactly a month since i last posted on here. Sorry to those of you who read (but don't leave comments). It's funny how in the winter the days actually are shorter than in the summer but yet longer at the same time. With RaNay having to teach, coach cheerleader, keep the house, coninue her own education in search of her Masters Degree, run the daily errands and a few other things that go along with being a MOM: and myself involved in fire department, working, broadcasting ballgames two nights a week, EMT school two other nights a week, trying to do clinicals and ride-alongs on the ambulance service, and all the other things that come with being a DAD. What have we really missed out on? This past week Camo had seemed sick with allergies for a couple of days and it only seemed natural since we all shared the same symptoms at some point or another during the week. I think RaNay and I both had kinda ignored his symptoms at one point or the other, shrugging them off to a life long battle with allergies. Then, Friday morning Camo awoke with his general "hey mommie and hey daddy" only today there would be a cough that followed that didn't sound right. Before work i made mention that maybe he should see the doctor that day. So we made arrangements with the babby-sitter to take him to the local clinic just to make sure nothing was really wrong. At 10:30 that morning i got the phone call that Camo's "allergies" had progressed to Pnuemonia. What had i done? So involed with my own needs of self accomplishment i had overlooked the health of our son, while at the same time being taught to recognize the symptoms of respiratory complications in class. What an idiot! What good is a PhD if you are applying for a job at 7-11, and what good is an EMT if they can't recognize signs and symptoms in someone they see everyday and what good is a fireman if he can't put out a fire?. And then it hit me, two weeks ago i met a man named Bernie Harberts who traveled from North Carolina to California with a pair of mules named Woody and Maggie at what he called the "Speed of Sense" always looking for "where-do-we-sleep-tonight o'clock". Although his "Speed of Sense" was based on a sense of perception, it made "SENSE". What have i been doing all of this for? Volunteer here and there,classes,work,school, for what? For Who? From now on, I too will try to travel at a the "Speed of Sense". Only it won't be a Sense of Perception, but a "Sense of Understanding" that life is too short to miss a minute with those who matter, a "Sense of Appreciation" for what i already have, all in the hopes that i never have to worry about "Where-Do-I-Sleep-Tonight O'Clock"! Thanks Bernie!!!!

Ruidoso 2008, Day two..

Well it's day two of the Christmas vacation that was kinda last minute. None the less we went sledding today and i thought i would share some of the pictures from this morning. I have been thinking all afternoon that I am in the wrong business, maybe the sledding business is the place to be. $50.00 to sled for three hours down four different runs. There were probably 250-300 people there this monring and more coming in the gate as we were leaving. that's truning an average of $15,000.00 per day.... hhhhhmmmmmm anybody got a snow machine and some hills i oculd borrow???

The weather has been bad since we got here so i have time to work on some pictures and to take a few along the way. Busy Schedules

i know i have not updated this in a while, but we have all been so busy. RaNay is still teaching and cheerleading sponsor and i have been traveling to play-off football games and basketball games. I have also enrolled in a E.M.T. course and spend two nights a week at that and two nights a week broadcasting and sometimes we get an evening off. I dont have another game until dec 16th so i will try to catch everyone up on what we have been doing. I have also been taking a lot of family pictures lately and hope to get some of those posted soon also. Stay tuned for more regular boring stuff from us to come.

Yesterday, Camo and I were in the front yard watching him ride his bike when i noticed that his socks were on inside out. Well i make the comment "Camo, your socks are on "backwards". So he turned around 180 degrees and says "how bout now"?.......Just like his mom!

Texas State Line Sunset

O.k. I'm not trying to down grade any other state in the U.S. but you have to admit that the Texas sunset could be one of the most beautiful sites on the Planet and it happens everyday. I took this shot a couple of miles from the New Mexico State line and thought i would share it with you. My mom says i can't drive very good while I'm taking pictures of the sunset i told her if my knees had thumbs she would never have known. Any way here is the shot.

Aspenfest in Ruidoso

RaNay, Camo and I and my mother all went to Ruidoso this last weekend to help mother do some things around the house. And in the mean time we attended the Aspenfest Parade and several venues in town. 1) Le Bistro is a wonderful spot to sit outside and grab a quick bite to eat, i recommend the Smoked Salmon Sandwich. 2) Lucy's, great Mexican food and cold drinks make a great combination. 4)and the Rivers Edge Eatery was a unique twist with lunch wraps the size of truck tires. Seriously they were all great and I recommend them to anyone who visits the Ruidoso area. On Saturday we attended teh Aspenfest Parade and thank you to Bill Pippen Real Estate for allowing us the front row seats to catch some great photos, and Thanks to Sarah Sturgeon for allowing me to photograph her son Gage, his picture is the bottom one. Here are a couple of my favorites from the Parade.

Look Ma No Training Wheels

Well a huge step in Camo's life has been taken as we have removed the training wheels from his bike. Now, I remember when i was young all of the scrapes, broken bones, torn levi's and i have watched Camo for a week now and he has yet to fall. However we have already swapped the front and rear tires due to wear and tear from something called a "burn-out".. Here are some pictures of the huge step, and that thing called a burn-out.

Floydada is getting a new highway from town towards Ralls, traffic is very confusing as you enter town from the south. Yesterday as Camo and I were going to get a glass of tea from Dairy Queen (where the concrete workers were pouring a new driveway) Camo (who knows NO strangers) had his window down, yells out the window. "Hey are you guys done yet?" and as everyone kinda giggles one of the concrete workers yells back "Not Yet!" to which Camo quickly replys..... "Well Get to work"!

Dear Glenn and Sandra,

You have been sued. My Client Camden Blake Johnston has suffered a tragedy at your expense. The actions by you (the defendant) have caused my client to suffer what is called a “medial cranial hemorrhage” or more commonly known as a “pop-knot dead center of his head”. Said Client however, has chosen to accept a plea bargain. Due to the recommendation of the Director of Child Protective Services for the Steen Addition (Mrs. RaNay Johnston) my Client has accepted the following terms. In the account that the plea agreement is not met you will be placed on “neighborhood probation” until these terms are met. 1.) You must provide at a minimum of one small sized zip-lock baggie of fruit loops upon your next “parentally supervised visit”. 2) You must also provide the same sized zip-lock baggie of whatever flavor graham crackers you buy, that he won’t eat over here. 3.) You must provide at my client’s request a 6oz. Styrofoam cup of pure Floydada City Water at your expense. 4.) My Client (Camden Blake Johnston) must have access to full restroom facilities including the usage of your toothbrush to freshen his breath while playing at your home. If these requests are not met, my Client (Camden Blake Johnston) will no longer be allowed to (a.) write all over your sidewalk with sidewalk chalk provided by the District Attorney’s Office. (b.) my client will also no longer be able to move his parents sprinkler to your yard when you think they aren’t looking. And, (c.) Said Client will no longer be able to relieve himself between the houses when “HE” thinks no one is looking. With the terms of this plea agreement lined out you have 10 days from today to accept or decline this agreement.

BREAKING NEWS "Russia Invades Georgia in search of Big Foot"

In the headlines this week was a huge "big foot" hoax in the State of Georgia that drew an insane crowd of followers, freaks and fanatics myself included (I'll let you figure out which category). So we sit anxiously awaiting the DNA test results to see if they really have a big foot or if they have just thrown their career completely out the window. Now at the same time Bombs rocked Tbilisi early Saturday morning as the fight between Georgia (the Country ) and Russia over a breakaway region intensified and moved into the Georgian capital. Now those two stories have absolutely nothing in common...YET!. Have you ever asked someone a question and as soon as it left your mouth you thought what kind of question is that. But It's too late, you've already launched it and there is no turning back. Well, Earlier this week RaNay and I are watching the news awaiting the DNA results from "Big Foot" and RaNay asks the most interesting question EVER! She said and I quote, " Hey Honey, why are the Russians in Georgia and what would they want with a Big Foot?" and i simply said "Good Night Dear!"

The Hogg Maulies and The World Famous Doug Moreland Band

According to the website and Chwan, Nobody really knows what a "Hogg Maulie" is. Well i have recently spent some time with the band and i know what a "Hogg Maulie" is. A Hogg Maulie is a very talented musician and good person. As a part of our (the radio station)'s new look we were allowed the oppourtunity (thanks Lisa) to be a part of the 116th Annual Briscoe County Rodeo and Celebration as the introduction for the Bands both nights. Friday was the Hogg Maulies and Saturday the "Doug Moreland Band" I want to thank Rode, Jerod, Will, David, Chwan, Parker and everyone who was there for a great time and "Camo" is already wearing his shirt. (It looks like a dress with guns on it, but he loves it.)Here is a picture of myself and the band on Friday night.

Fire and Rescue Training Facility

After months of hard work by almost all of the volunteers on the FVFD, we have a new training facility. There will be multiple classes taught from and off the side of this new facility, including high-angle rescue, repelling 1-4 and many other rescue classes. There is also a FPD training facility beside this one so everyone on both departments can take advantage of the facilities. Our 25th Annual Floydada Area Fire School will be hosted on August 16th beginning at 7:00 am with registration. Classes will follow after. Fore more information call the city office. Kyler Scout turns 3

This will tell you how far behind i am in posting to the blog, however i have a weekend here and some spare time so i'll catch everybody up. Kyler turned 3 and everyone celebrated on July the 12th. (and in typical "Rainwater" fashion.) (most of you will understand that.) Lot's of kids and lots of fun was had that day, i already gave Kember the c.d. of pictures and for some reason i only kept two pictures anyway here they are. This past weekend Kason Hughes had a birthday party and his present was a trampoline, So Rickey (Kason's Dad) invites everyone and the kids over to jump on the trampoline. Well somehow this turned into Rickey's "House of Bounce and Hair Salon". Dont ask me i just tell the stories.. Anyway Calin Teeple evidently was in need of a haircut (short, and quick is what Aimee (Calin's Mom) told Rickey. Now according to the picture it may not be super short, but it was dang sure fast.. I never knew Rickey could move like that. Any way the second picture is Camo and all his friends, in order from right to left, Kendall, Payton, Camo, Kason, and Calin. HAPPY BIRTDAY KASON..

Sunday Golf

Sunday is "golf" day, so Craig, Rickey, and myself headed to Plainview to meet one of Craig's Buddies "Walker". Now, had i know what kind of a golfer Walker was in advance i would have cleaned out my garage or something instead of trying to compete with him. In the midst of his one under round on "18" holes and my 8 over round on "9" holes i managed to take some pretty cool shots. I only posted three but there were alot of really cool shots. I think the one of Walkers feet after he just hit the golf ball is kinda cool. (the first pic) Anyway thanks to all the guys for a great day of golf. We should meet up and play again.

Emily has made quite the impression on Camo in the last couple of years. I Think Camo had a hard time this past year deciding which cheerleader was his favorite, however i am pretty certain that Lexi is in the lead this year.

One Ranger Returns by Joaquin Jackson

A few months ago i had a post on here about a book titled "One Ranger", and I loved the book. here is a link to that post if you wanna read it. Well i had the oppourtunity to not only purchase the book, but to have them both signed by the author and get a quick snapshot with Joaquin himself. He made an appearance in town this past weekend and i got to sit and visit with him aobut his life and to thank him for writing the books. He also spent about an hour or so talking about stories from his life and the fact that one of the stories from the first book may become a motion picture, keep your fingers crossed you wont want to miss that. Any way here is my picture with one of the most impressive individual i have ever met. p.s. if you like to read i strongly incourage you to buy both of these books. (you wont be sorry)! I had the oppourtunity to take some Senior Pictures this year and here is the first of my collection. Colby Turner was my first Senior project and here is one of the photos i took of him. The top one is the ps'd shot and the bottom is the original. This was one of the coolest things i have ever been asked to do. We had a good afternoon and took around 200 photos. I am still going through them and trying to clean some of them up and make them as good as what he deserves. Let me know what you think of this or any ideas you might have for a cool picture. Im on call at the firehall today and camo and mom come to see me so why not take some pictures. I am learning that there is no wrong place to take a picture and the more you carry the camera with you the more oppourtunities you have to capture a split second in history that can never be reproduced. Here is a picture of camo in a firetruck and then tampered with just a little. Hope its not too freaky. I thought it was kinda interesting this way. The original picture is kinda bland. Storm Season in West Texas

Not all sayings are true, for instance.. "April showers bring may flowers" that doesnt cut it in West Texas. Our saying goes more like.."May Showers bring June Cotton". The last two nights have brought 3" of badly needed rain and some crazy electrical storms. I stayed awake last night attempting to capture my first lightning shot and i got 3 decent pictures but one really stands out to me so here are my attempts at lightning photograpy. The third one is probably my favorite.

With the events of this week and the realization of how short life really is, i am going to try something new and hopefully keep up with it. I learned by attending two funerals back to back on Wednesday of two high shcool young men, that i dont want to be at a loss of stories and i dont want to forget "when camo said that". So i am going to start sharing some of our stories from day to day beginning with this one.... Just the other day Camo, RaNay and i were just finishing dinner and i asked Camo if he knew why he was so handsome and he said "no". I told him that it was because I gave him half of my looks.. and he replied.."nope my mommie did" So i asked him if he knew why he was so smart. He replied "nope", I told him it was because i gave him half of my brain. and he said "nope my mommie did". With the frustration level quickly on the rise, I asked him "Do you even know who your dad is? To which he replied......"WHO?"...

Kyler is one of Camo's buddies and this weekend came to the house and played in the yard for hours. As you can tell by his face they were having quite the time. During the month of January the Floyd County Livestock show was held in Floydada, and the two in the picture both emerged as Champions. Reagan and Milton pretty well blew away the competition winning both Grand Champion Steer and Junior Showmanship in their debut into the Cattle show ring. This is proof positive that with determination, hard work and a dad who wakes up early that anything is possible if you want it bad enough. Congrats to Reagan and Milton on all of your hard work. You deserve all you have won... p.s. Camo is gonna show one day so you better look out! HA

What a day we had yesterday. Its opening day of pheasant season and every year we go hunting. This was camo's first real hunt. We had two groups yesterday and between the two we shot 45 pheasant. My brothers group limited out in about 3 hours. Camo and i took a group late that afternoon and shot 12 here is the picture of camo and some of the guys with a couple of the birds.

O.K. so i have no idea what age appropriate gifts are and jumped off the deep end and bought camo a 4 wheeler... what was i thinking.. shortly after he ran through the front door i thought "wow this is the coolest most expensive gift he has ever gotten!" So I can remember swimming lessons and i dont think i was that courageous.. Camo is afraid of nothing as you can clearly see in the picture. Mrs. Durham is a miracle worker with these kids, only 2 days before he started lessons we went to a birthday party and i could not get him in the water. I dont understand how she does that. (however i think she just shoved me in) Maybe its easier to teach them when they are deathly afraid of getting shoved in the pool at random. Ha Ha! Well just another short post to keep you up to date on how things are going in the flatlands.

SUMMER FUN

Ok, so i know that i am an insult to the true bloggers of the world or maybe that we have too many projects at the Johnston Castle ( little corner house). You see we have two vacations to pay for this winter as we are also going back to Vegas in December and Cozumel in January, so everyone is working many late hours trying to help fund these trips.. In the mean time Camo has decided to try and break my record for emergency room visits in one year.. he's got a good head start on me now with 2 visits in 3 weeks.. If he got only one trait from his father he is extremely hard headed.. one super glue trip and one trip with 4 staples.. all of which were in he forehead.. In the mean time RaNay has been teaching summer school and taking camo to swimming lessons and im pretty sure there is an occasional nap in there but she calls it "doing laundry" HA HA .. I have spent a lot of time driving a tractor till late and trying to get ready for this years football season and i also returned to service with the fire department here so i spend several nights a month staying there for on-call service and trying to put in training hours to become intermiediate certified only 85 more to go.... YEAH.... well that pretty much wraps it up hope you all forgive me for the lack of attention... and Magan thanks for the cruising tips!!!!

Cadillac Ranch Trip

So there is this little place in Amarillo called the Cadillac Ranch, RaNay nor Camo had ever seen it so Sunday we took a little trip and drove up. Besides, they have some good restaurants there. So away we went. Now I'm no history expert, but here is a good example of today's society, I am pretty certain that when these cars were buried the land owner had no intentions of the cars looking like this. Even with all the gallons of disrespectful paint, this is still a cool road side stop. While you are there i also suggest going to Gander Mtn. (that's what i call a "man store"), and try the Red Robin restaurant, they have a burger with an egg served on it and i hear tell it is wonderful.. I'm just not man enough to try it.. But the pineapple burger was delicious!!! Not sure where we are headed on our next Sunday drive but stay with us for lots of back road travels through out the summer..

ok so enough saying "NO" RaNay and i have said no to trips, vacations, spending money, and doing anything besides work and home for too long.. thanks to Brad and Molly, we are going cruising.. This is the Carnival Cruise ship we are boarding in January for a 5 day Carribean cruise.. Yes we are excited just in case you were wondering.. however neither of us have ever done anything like this so we were hoping for some advice and direction of things "not-to-miss" while in Progresso and Cozumel Mexico. I have done some research and found that the Mayan ruins are a must see while there, considering they are approximately 1500 years old and in better shape than my 40 year old house.. (how is that?) Anyway here is an oppourtunity for some of you to let us know what we should and shouldn't do.. i will tell you this... and you mark my word.. I will max out the memory card in the camera before we get home.. and yes we are going snorkeling for "dork fish" ( i know they are out there somewhere) Ha Ha. leave us a comment and your ideas are always welcome.. ok so the Barnum and Bailey circus came to Lubbock and camo just had to go so his Mi-Mi got good seats and took the kids. Callie is Camo's cousin and was his official date for the night but i think they both had a blast. That is the first time camo has ever seen an elephant outside of a zoo and was amazed.. Im not sure how much clowns get paid but i think camo wants to be one. Which is handy cause i sorta act like one so i could coach him. Ha Ha. Its nearly summer so be expecting more pictures and updates provided it ever stops raining. OK, So i know it seems like forever since I've updated my blog...and it has. We have been so busy lately it just hasn't been on the top of my priority list. However it is Easter Sunday and i had some free time so what tha heck. RaNay has been swamped with one act play and U.I.L. stuff and I have been covered up at work, and trying desperately to get our house and yard in shape for summer. It seems like RaNay hasn't had much free time lately with UIL and all, she is hardly at home at night. But after this weekend and Regional in Abilene maybe she'll have some time.
So, its Easter Sunday and it SNOWED.. yes i repeat.... IT SNOWED! It has been so cold this winter and i have been so inactive, i stepped on the scales at my moms house today and well it just laughed at me.... I hate that, however i came home and looked around and its not just me.... "Dori" (that's camo's golden retriever) is HUGE, and FRITZ (the mini schnauzer) looks more like a wiener dog with a beard... and RaNay.....oh you don't think I'm that dumb do you..... she looks perfect....!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope to have more pictures and comments soon.. I promise ill do a better job of updating this page from now on. In the words of Rudy the Barber..."you come back now, huh!?"

2-A PLAYOFFS

It's Thursday night and sure and sure as I stand, the Floydada Whirlwinds are in the 2A play-offs. How i wish you could have been here on Tuesday night and seen the Winds pull off a most impressive win against the #14 Abernathy Antelopes... Floydada came out to an early lead in the second quarter of 33-11, before the Antelopes would begin to roam. Abernathy would come within 5 before the half, before the Whirwinds would blow the competition away.In the second half the Whirlwind's would do nothing but reak havoc on the plains and leave the Antelopes wounded and wondering where Dorothy and Todo were. Earlier in the season the Antelopes beat the Winds in Abernathy, but all would change on Tuesday night in the "Big Green Giant" (aka.. the new Whirlwind Gym). The "3 muskateer's" of Floydada in Williams, Beedy and Miller would come away with 52 of the 61 points scored against the Antelopes. The lopes would get within 6 before the half and all was over after that. That put's Floydada in a tie with Abernathy for second place in district play this season.. We will have a play-off game this Saturday at the Rip Griffin Center on the LCU campus this Saturday at 8 p.m. I hope to see this game streamed on the net. Welcome to the play-off's for the Floydada Whirlwinds.. With a 56-46 win over the Childress Bobcats this past Friday the Whirlwinds have secured their place in the play-off's for the 5th year in a row under the direction of head coach Chris Brattain. In the final game of district play the Abernathy Antelopes with a 20-7 or 7-2 record in district play will come knocking on the door of the Whirlwind gym this Tuesday.. Reese Myatt and Jake Truelove of the Antelopes destroyed my pencil in the last match up between the winds and the antelopes. With a recent win over the Bobcats of Childress, the Winds hope for a victory over the Antelopes this Tuesday..With a victory it would tie the second place finish in the district 3-2A class, which could only be decided by a coin toss or a play off match up between these two power-houses again. Ill be looking forward to the broadcast on Tuesday and i hope you are listening as well. ok about two weeks ago it snowed here and we decided to get out the toys and go play. Here is a picture of camo riding the four wheeler with me that afternoon. what a bunch of fun.. i wish it would snow every year so we could do this more often.

Well CONGRADULATIONS to the whirlwinds on a 61-27 victory over the Lockney Longhorns in Floydada on Tuesday. Any match-up between these two rivals is always a big one. Lockney came out with the early lead and racked up 5 points and took 2 minutes off of the clock before Floydada would Douglas Williams put up the first 2 points for the Whirlwinds from the charity stripe in the first quarter. That would be the end of the Lockney points for quite some time as Floydada went on a 27 point run in the first and second quarter. Douglas' night was short lived as well as Payte Beedy's as Coach Brattain would bench the powerful duo in the third quarter, due to a significant lead by the Whirlwinds. All 11 players on Floydada's bench would enter the scoring column before this game was over. The Winds would also beat a season record for 3-point shots ending the game with 11 shots and 33 points from beyond the arc. The Winds will host the Littlefield Wildcats at home on Friday night. For those of you who like to read, I would like to make a recommendation. I am currently reading "One Ranger" it is a memoir of a true Texas ranger named Joaquin Jackson, and maybe one of the best books I've ever read. A very down to earth account of a man who made his beginning in the Texas panhandle and saw the struggles that the flat land has to offer. A willingness to overcome those struggles and a distaste for the egotistical money man, made Joaquin Jackson a true Texas Ranger in every sense of the word. CONGRATULATIONS to the Floydada Whirlwinds as they pull off as upset win against the Childress Bobcats with a 76-48 win at home tonight. Floydada now improves their record to 12-10 and 3-1 in district play. The Whirlwinds jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter and maintained that lead throughout the game. Using all players both offensively and defensively the "Winds" charged ahead in the second half and never looked back. The 6'2" Sophomore Titus Miller rained down a season high 19 points (several of those from "down town") as well as 5 rebounds and a performance worth bragging about. Kevin and Kody Smith twin Juniors wiped away any chance of the Bobcats getting the rebounds. Payte Beedy (averaging 10.4ppg) who has been struggling with a deep thigh injury since football season showed no signs of pain tonight, as he pulled down 9 points of his own, and the "High Rise" Douglas Williams (averaging 17.33ppg) put together another high light reel performance. The Whirlwinds now easily in second place in District 2-3A play have sight of a District Championship on the horizon. We will travel a little closer to that horizon on Friday where the Winds will challenge the Abernathy Antelopes. For those of you within listening range I encourage you to tune us in on KFLP 106.1 FM for the game, the girls will be broadcast at 6:30pm and the boys will follow at about 8pm. here is a picture of camo at christmas this year at Kevin and Tiffany's ( thanks to the Hoketts for the hospitality). His eyes look like he's spaced out. but the britches are too cool. "The Children's Place" is one cool store for kids clothes. Just thought you might wanna know that... hint , hint. Well check back soon as we will be updating regularly. By the way Tiffany, love the kitchen. And please don't make us sleep in Braydon's room next year, I haven't fully recovered from the longhorn punishment!!

Well here is a quick recap of this season so far. Floydada will host the Childress Bobcats here on Tuesday at 8:00pm. Floydada now with a 11-10 record and 2-1 in district play sits in second place in district play. Last Friday Floydada played host to a very tall and talented Shallowater Mustangs team who with a 43-41 win over Floydada moved to first place in district 2-3A play. Floydada is not having the season they did last year when they went 30-2 before a loss to Tahoka in the play-offs. This district packed full of talent with teams such as Shallowater(#4 in the state) , Childress, and Abernathy. However Floydada doing a good job so far. The wirlwinds had a tough pre-season play facing teams like Lubbock Trinity (#10), Lorenzo(#1), Lubbock Estacado(#16) and Nazareth(#6). Floydada yet to get the one-two-three puch down with Williams, Beedy and Miller a Senior, Junior, Sophomore trio that could that could rival most teams of five. I look forward to the game tomorrow and will be broadcasting starting at 8 on KFLP radio. Hopefully we will be streaming on the net before football season this year. this post is for D.G. in a recent email you asked me based on my email address if i owned an outfitters business and the answer is yes. Hunting is my passion, everything else just pays the bills. So here is a picture of opening day afternoon hunt. We started this day at 1:30 and this picture was taken at about 4:30 that afternoon. We probably walked 25 miles in three hours that afternoon but it really paid off. We actually shot 12 birds but only found nine, and a half dozen quail. So it was a productive day in the texas panhandle.

How this whole thing got started

OK so here is the scoop on how this whole thing got started. I was in the 6th grade when i first met her and let me tell you i was a dork. Anyway, i didn't see much of her until i moved to Andrews Texas in 1994. I was trying to graduate high school at the time and all i wanted was to date a cheerleader however that would prove more difficult than i anticipated. I was persistent and it would pay off later in this story. So i graduated and went on to college and we were separated again, not for long though as i discovered she too would be coming to college. So there we were both going to school at South Plains College in levelland. I wasnt real sure how to go about letting her know that i wanted to be with her so i said it with a kiss. That went over like a lead balloon, I got told to go home. Well i did and i moved back to Floydada to go to work on the family farm, and it would be a couple of years before we would get together again. While Shannon Bailey, Billy Baron and I all lived together i thought one night i should call RaNay and see what they are doing after-all she had two roomates and so did I. hhmmmmmm! So we called and they came over. It could not have worked out much better. I finally got my chance with RaNay and Shannon had found his wife, he just didnt know it yet. This is a picture of RaNay and me from that most important night and here is one of Shannon and LaRae future Mr. & Mrs. Shannon Bailey. So time would go on and everybody was happy. This picture was taken on New Years Eve 2001. In two years from the photos the two couples would be Mr.'s and Mrs.'s. Two ole boys from floydada married two girls from Andrews.

So Congrats to Shannon and LaRae. As i write this i have now been married to my bride for four years and 1 day. So Happy Anniversary "Yesterday"!
